A Home Candle Business that actually
allows you to work from home!

The greatest danger for most of us is
not that our aim is too high and we miss it,
but that it is too low and we reach it.

Hi, my name is Karin Bates.
Thanks for taking a few minutes to learn a little about me and my husband, Joe, our passions in life, and what ultimately drew us, parents of two young children, rock climbers/mountaineers, middle school teacher, and restoration contractor to, of all things, a home candle business. Whoda thunk it?

We live in southern Maine in a wonderful old 1830 farm house that we’re in the process of restoring.  Although our children are lobbying hard to see this change, the only “livestock” we’re raising here at the moment are our two beautiful children, Aidan, 5, and Emma, 3.  They are the greatest source of joy, love, laughter and meaning in our lives.

We have many other interests but none have enriched our lives the way the mountains and climbing has.  Click here to see some photos and read about a few of our climbs.

We met while on a rock climbing trip in 1991 and for more than 10 years we strived and managed to arrange our work around our life’s passion.  I was a middle school teacher, coach, and mentor to many of my students and Joe was, and continues to be, a respected restoration contractor and carpenter.  It was a wonderfully balanced life that allowed us the opportunity to spend 3 to 6 months each year doing what was truly important to us.

Like so many parents, our priorities changed with the birth of our children.  Even before we decided to start a family however, we were both ready for a career change.

Despite the client base he had developed and freedom it offered, Joe was after 20 years, growing tired of his contracting business.  Insurance costs, employees (sometimes as many as 15), and the physical nature of the work were beginning to take it’s toll.  His profits increased steadily, but so did the headaches and time away from the family.

I love teaching, but like many women in my position, I did not want to leave our children in someone else’s care.  Our commitment was now to our own children, and their upbringing. I wanted to find a way that I could be home with our kids, and still contribute financially.

We took it upon ourselves to make a study of the various home business opportunities and wealth creation strategies, reading everything we could on the subject and seeking advice from our most trusted and successful friends and business owners. I was looking for a business that would both utilize my strengths as an educator, and allow me to schedule my time around our children.

We were determined to find a way to earn a great living from home and build the walkaway residual income that was lacking in our current professions. Other like-minded people were doing it and so could we. This, we told ourselves, was a mountain we could climb.

Now that we had children it was imperative that we create the lifestyle that we wanted for our family and to continue to model for them a self-directed life .

As free thinkers we wanted to encourage this independent thinking in our children to live a life of their  own design.

Ultimately, it was my involvement with another network marketing company, and the desire to bring that business to the internet and truly work from home (something that few consultants I knew were doing) that led me to this candle business.  I was looking for internet marketing skills, not a candle business.

However, the more I learned about this “little candle business,” the more I became intrigued, and then convinced, that this business already had everything in place that I was looking for and more.

This home candle business offers us three different ways to make money, allows us to really work from home, and gives us, and those on our team, the ability to leverage our efforts and create long term residual income.

It gives me the chance to teach and coach others - something I have always loved.  And most importantly, is allowing me to spend more time with my husband and our children doing what we love.
